Road Trip!

Jul-14-2008 By Stacey

The plans for our September road trip are finally being mapped out. We are taking a kid vacation from Arkansas to Las Vegas via Monument Valley. Does anyone live around or know anything about Kayenta, Arizona? We were hoping to stay a night there but all the hotels and campgrounds are already booked. The only option I can find is to stay about 75 miles away in Tuba City or to Head up to Mexican Hat in Utah. I just found a TP we can stay in, that sounds pretty cool.

Anyway, the road trip is all about the open road, my wonderful husband and I and of course the Jeep. We’re going to take the rear seat out to give us plenty of room but we’re trying to find a good way to keep the laptops, camera equipment and personal items secure when we leave the Jeep to do touristy things. I’ve been looking at the Bestop Extendatrunk but am not sure it is worth nearly $300 for something that is going to spend most of its time in the garage. There don’t seem to be many options out there, certainly not any cheap ones.

I’m really starting to get excited about the trip and mapping it out and finding campgrounds/hotels is making it much more real.

Half doors vs full doors

This is my first time owning a Wrangler with full doors. I will say the full doors are more practical given we have two kids in tow but I really miss my half doors. I feel like I’m short on elbow room with the full doors. I miss being able to take the window out and rest my arm down low. With the constant weather changes here I’ve decided to leave the doors on so half doors would be the next best thing. We’re considering buying some half doors but it is pretty low on our list of priorities at the moment. I’ve been looking at the Bestop soft half doors as a cheap alternative. I’d love to hear thoughts from someone that has them. I haven’t really found any helpful reviews.

We moved weekday homes two weeks ago. It was unexpected, we weren’t happy where Marriott has us staying, I asked for other options. I received an email Tuesday lunchtime, went and had a look a couple hours later and moved the next day. Fortunately the only piece of furniture I had to move was my daughter’s toddler bed but it was still six trips in a packed Yukon.

The new place is great; it is twice the size of the apartment, much newer and only a few miles out of town. The best part is we have a garage!! No more top up and top down all the time. We shouldn’t have any more flooding incidents as long as we can keep the garage clean enough to fit the Jeep in.
